Our Caregivers are more than just helping hands. They’re companions, advocates, and trusted sources of comfort for the clients and families they support.
Whether assisting with personal care, helping with specialized daily needs, offering companionship, or simply bringing a warm smile and steady presence into the home, they help individuals live safely and independently at home, often during life’s most vulnerable moments.
Meet Kienu, a dedicated Caregiver from Home Helpers® Home Care of Carmel and Greater Indianapolis, IN. She is just one of thousands of Caregivers across the nation who provide compassionate, personalized support to help clients and their families.
This is Kienu’s story of exceptional care from the heart.
Kienu has been a Caregiver for more than four years, but her reason for choosing this work began close to home.
After seeing how much help her grandmother needed and how much her family struggled to provide that support, Kienu felt called to care for others. That experience opened her heart to the difference compassionate care can make when families are trying to do the best they can for someone they love.
Caregiving is Kienu’s “God-given talent,” something that flows from her heart.
She brings that heart into every home she enters, creating moments of connection and reassurance for the people she serves.
That sense of purpose shapes how Kienu sees her role. She understands that care is not only about completing tasks. It is about showing up with compassion, offering comfort, and helping someone feel supported when they need it most.
Kienu’s care is rooted in compassion. She notices what each person needs, without them having to ask, and responds with care that feels personal.
William is bedridden, and Kienu’s care stands out because of how attentive, steady, and present she is, helping him to feel respected and supported through each day.
That kind of care also made a lasting difference for Wendell and his wife, Connie.
Wendell cannot always get around easily, and there are times when he does not feel like talking. In those moments, attentiveness matters. Kienu can read Wendell in a way that allows her to be helpful while still respecting Wendell’s comfort. The way she approaches caregiving makes her the right fit for him and his family.
Connie saw how Kienu connected with Wendell and how naturally she brought comfort to their lives.
“Kienu made a difference in our lives in so many ways. She is a person who has a way with people because she has a great heart.”
— Connie, Kienu’s Client
That same care also shows up in the moments that help clients stay connected to the traditions they love. When one client who had been ill for years wanted to host Thanksgiving dinner again, Kienu helped make that possible. She helped prepare the meal, giving the client and her family a day filled with familiar traditions, laughter, and togetherness.
That is part of what makes Kienu’s care stand out. She sees the person behind the need, remembers what matters to them, and helps families feel confident their loved one is being cared for with heart.
Kienu’s ability to connect with people is one reason clients and families feel comfortable with her care.
She brings warmth and confidence into homes where clients may be facing illness, dementia, mobility challenges, or other changing needs. No matter the situation, Kienu has a way of making people feel at ease.
Some clients may be having a difficult day. Others may need reassurance, patience, or time to feel comfortable with care. Kienu has a way of reading those moments and responding with kindness.
“What makes Kienu stand out is that she leads with compassion, resilience, and just overall joy. Anytime she sees a client, she just leaves a lasting impression on their lives.”
— Michelle Nunn, Franchisee, Home Helpers® Home Care of Carmel and Greater Indianapolis, IN
That lasting impression is part of what makes Kienu’s care memorable. She listens. She notices what matters. And she brings joy into the home in a way clients and families remember.
Kienu was recently honored as one of Home Helpers® Home Care’s 2025 Exceptional Caregivers of the Year for the compassion, resilience, joy, and heartfelt care she brings to clients and families.
Our Exceptional Caregivers are not just dependable. They are not just kind. They go above and beyond in ways that make a meaningful difference for clients and families. “I get to change someone’s life every day. Just being there for someone and their family means a lot to me. The smile, the joy, the comfort I bring every day to someone’s life, it means a lot.”
— Kienu Burns, 2025 Exceptional Caregiver of the Year
