Reliable 24-Hour Home Care in Cincinnati, OH, Florence, KY and Surrounding Areas

Home Helpers Home Care provides 24-hour home care across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky with trained caregivers who work in rotating shifts and stay awake, alert, and ready to help at every hour of the day and night โ€” we do not offer live-in care โ€” with a dedicated Care Manager who knows your family by name and checks in within the first 24 hours of care.

By Kristin Worthington, co-owner, Home Helpers Home Care of Greater Cincinnati & NKY

Some of the sweetest moments our caregivers describe happen in the middle of the night: warming milk at 3 a.m. for a client who canโ€™t sleep, sitting with her until a favorite old song settles her back down, and having breakfast started when she wakes. That is what around-the-clock care should feel like โ€” not someone in the house, but someone present. If your family has reached the point where being alone for even part of the day no longer feels safe, this page will tell you plainly how our 24-hour care works, how itโ€™s staffed, and what to ask any agency youโ€™re comparing.

Trusted care starts with a conversation. Call (513) 712-0736 or schedule your free in-home assessment to discover how Home Helpers can support your family with personalized, dependable care.

Awake and Alert at Every Hour โ€” Why We Donโ€™t Offer Live-In Care

Youโ€™ll find two very different services both called “24-hour care” in Cincinnati. Live-in care places one caregiver in your home for days at a stretch โ€” and that model assumes the caregiver sleeps a full night under your roof. Home Helpers of Cincinnati and NKY does not offer live-in care, by deliberate choice. Our 24-hour home care runs in rotating shifts, so the caregiver with your loved one at 3 a.m. began her shift rested and is awake, alert, and ready to help โ€” the same standard we hold at 3 p.m.

We staff it this way because the families who truly need around-the-clock care usually need it most at night โ€” wandering, sundowning, falls on the way to the bathroom, or simply the fear of being alone in the dark. A caregiver who is asleep down the hall canโ€™t prevent the 2 a.m. fall. One who is awake in the next room can.

Shift care has two other advantages families notice quickly. No single caregiver burns out carrying your family alone, and because our caregivers are our own employees โ€” screened, insured, trained, and backed up by a team โ€” a sick day or a vacation never leaves a gap in coverage. Weโ€™ve staffed care this way for Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky families since 2004; weโ€™re BBB A+ accredited and Home Care Pulse Certified.

What 24-Hour Home Care Includes

Your care plan is built around your loved oneโ€™s routines, not ours. Around the clock, caregivers help with:

  • Personal care โ€” bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, handled with patience and dignity
  • Safe mobility โ€” steady hands for transfers, walking, and stairs, from caregivers trained in safe transfer techniques
  • Meals and hydration โ€” cooking, favorite recipes, and the reminders to drink water that matter more than most people realize
  • Medication reminders โ€” on schedule, every time, day and night
  • Overnight attentiveness โ€” an awake caregiver who hears the first footstep, not the fall
  • Companionship โ€” conversation, card games, church on television, a walk to the mailbox; the things that make a day feel like living, not waiting

For clients living with Alzheimerโ€™s or another dementia, our caregivers are trained in dementia communication โ€” and around-the-clock consistency is often what makes remaining at home possible. Many of our 24-hour families come to us after a hospital stay, when recovery needs more support than family alone can give.

Overnight Care When Thatโ€™s All You Need

Not every family needs all 168 hours a week. If days are manageable but nights are the worry, we build overnight shifts โ€” for example 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. โ€” with the same awake-and-alert standard. An overnight caregiver in Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky from our team helps with late-evening routines, is present and awake through the night for bathroom trips and reassurance, and has breakfast and morning medications reminders handled before the family arrives. Overnight care is often where families start; if needs grow, the plan grows with you.

One Care Manager Who Knows Your Family by Name

Every Home Helpers family gets a dedicated Care Manager โ€” one named person, not a call center. Your Care Manager checks in within the first 24 hours of care, visits at 14 and 30 days and about every 60 days after, and adjusts the plan as needs change. Within the first month, your Care Manager will also find one specific way to bring your loved one joy โ€” a garden bed made reachable again, a Reds game on the radio with someone whoโ€™ll talk about it. Around-the-clock care should not just keep someone safe. It should give them their life back in the place they love.

What 24-Hour Home Care Costs in Cincinnati

We believe you deserve numbers before a sales conversation. At typical Greater Cincinnati rates of $34 to $38 per hour, around-the-clock care runs roughly $25,000 to $28,000 per month, with the exact figure depending on the level of care involved. After your free in-home assessment we put your estimate in writing, at no charge and with no obligation โ€” and if we think you need fewer hours than youโ€™re asking for, weโ€™ll say so. For eligible veterans, 24-hour home care may be covered through the VA Community Care Network at little or no cost to the family. We are an approved VA CCN provider [link: VA CCN page] โ€” call the Cincinnati VA Community Care office at (513) 475-6460 to ask about eligibility, or start with us and weโ€™ll walk you through it.

Questions Families Ask About 24-Hour Home Care

Do you provide live-in caregivers?

No. We staff 24-hour care exclusively with awake caregivers working in rotating shifts. Live-in arrangements assume the caregiver sleeps overnight in your home; we believe families paying for around-the-clock care deserve a caregiver who is awake and alert at every hour. If a quote from another agency is dramatically lower than ours, ask whether the overnight caregiver will be awake โ€” that is usually the difference.

Is the overnight caregiver really awake all night?

Yes. Overnight shifts are working shifts, not sleeping arrangements. Your caregiver is awake, attentive, and checking on your loved one through the night โ€” which is exactly when wandering, falls, and anxiety are most likely.

Will it be the same caregivers every week?

We build a small, consistent team for each 24-hour family and keep the same faces on the same shifts as much as possible โ€” consistency matters, especially in dementia care. Because caregivers are our employees with a team behind them, an illness or vacation never means a stranger at the door unannounced; your Care Manager tells you who is coming.

How quickly can 24-hour care begin?

In most situations we can begin care within 24 to 48 hours of the in-home assessment. For urgent situations โ€” a hospital discharge, a sudden decline โ€” call (513) 712-0736 and tell us your timeline; we make every effort to move faster.

Can 24-hour care start after a hospital stay?

Yes โ€” hospital discharge is one of the most common reasons families call us. If you call while discharge is being planned, we can have a caregiver scheduled for the day your loved one comes home. Learn more on our transitional care page [link: transitional care page].
