We are telling a different story at Home Helpers Santa Monica.

Not the one where getting older means getting smaller. Where care is something that happens to you when things go wrong. Where the narrative is about what you’re giving up and what you can no longer do.

A different one. One where 75 is the beginning of something, not the end. Where care is a lifestyle choice, not a medical concession. Where a Co-Pilot is the tool that keeps the adventure going, not the signal that the adventure is over.

What 75 Looks Like on the Westside in 2026

It looks like a woman who walks the Venice Boardwalk every Tuesday morning with her Co-Pilot, stops at the farmers market on the way home, and makes it to her yoga class at the YMCA on Thursdays without thinking twice about the logistics.

It looks like a man who attends the lecture series at WISE & Healthy Aging, cooks Sunday dinner for his grandchildren with his Co-Pilot’s help, and watches the sunset from Palisades Park on evenings when the marine layer rolls back and the Pacific turns gold.

It looks like independence maintained intentionally, supported professionally, and lived without apology.

As of 2024, 61.2 million Americans are aged 65 or over, 18% of the entire U.S. population.[1] Globally, people 80 and over are expected to triple by 2050 from 2020 baseline levels.[2] The old script about what aging looks like is being rewritten by an enormous generation of people who have no interest in the version their parents lived through. The Westside is where that rewrite is happening at its most vivid.

Why Geography Actually Matters for Longevity

Over 300 days of sunshine per year means consistent vitamin D, critical for bone density, immune function, and mood regulation in adults over 65. World class medical care at UCLA Health, Cedars-Sinai, Providence Saint John’s, and Kaiser within a short drive. A walkable coastal environment that makes outdoor activity natural rather than effortful. Research shows that people with strong social relationships live 7 to 15 years longer than those without them.[3] Chronic isolation carries the same mortality risk as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.[4] The Westside gives seniors every advantage for building those connections. A Co-Pilot makes sure they actually do.

The Co-Pilot Lifestyle Is Not About Limitation

The thing I want families to understand, and the thing that surprises most seniors when they experience it, is that having a Co-Pilot is not a reduction of independence. It’s an expansion of it.

Your parent isn’t giving anything up. They’re gaining someone who handles the logistics so the living can actually happen. The driving through West LA traffic. The parking at the Getty. The grocery run so the fridge is stocked. The medication management so nobody has to think about it. The safety check so everyone sleeps better at night.

All of that handled. So the Tuesday morning walk on the Venice Boardwalk can just be a Tuesday morning walk on the Venice Boardwalk. Not a negotiation. Not a family worry. Just a beautiful morning on the best coastline in the country.
