I spent 30 years in television. Edit bays, color suites, control rooms. Live sports, talk shows, reality TV. Three decades of telling other people’s stories.

When I opened Home Helpers of Santa Monica, I thought I was leaving that career behind.

I wasn’t.

Because here’s what nobody tells you about home care: it’s a storytelling business. Every client I meet is in the middle of a story. One that started decades before I showed up, full of chapters most people never ask about anymore.

And somewhere along the way, our culture decided that at a certain age, the story is basically over. That care means managing an ending.

I think that’s wrong.

In TV, the star shines because a whole crew handles everything else. The logistics, the schedule, the thousand invisible things nobody at home ever sees. That’s what we do. The driving, the cooking, the companionship, the safety net. We’re the crew, so our clients can stay the star.

Home Helpers of Santa Monica isn’t in the business of managing decline. We’re in the business of helping people write their next chapter.

And after 30 years in this town, I can tell you the best stories don’t end at 75. They just need the right crew behind them.

• About 90% of our caregivers are Certified Nursing Assistants, and every one has experience with Alzheimer’s and dementia care.
• Our pricing is published on this site, because families deserve straight answers before they pick up the phone.
• We’re local and owner-run. When you call, you’re talking to people who live and work right here on the Westside and in the South Bay.
