Home Helpers Sustains Senior Independence in Pasco & Pinellas Counties

Author: Debbie Humphrey

We have been blessed to serve hundreds of seniors and veterans over the last 17 years, and each has requested or required specific in-home care services to meet their needs and maintain their independence.

For example, an 83-year-old lady originally hired us to watch over her husband, who was in advanced stages of Alzheimer’s disease, while she went to the hair salon and ran errands each week. After his death and numerous surgeries on her shoulder, knee, and back, she lost her ability to drive and move freely around her home. She maintains our homemaker services like dusting, vacuuming, and mopping, and occasionally needs transportation assistance.

Another 86-year-old social butterfly retired from driving after multiple car accidents, but she has places to go and people to see. So, a compassionate Home Helpers caregiver drives her places and takes care of grocery shopping, pharmacy pickups, and occasional light housekeeping tasks.

A 77-year-old man with Parkinson’s disease (PD) only required companionship and transportation assistance to the gym, his business office, and PD support group meetings until his condition quickly deteriorated and he experienced serious cognitive decline. Now, he has 24-hour shift care with multiple caregivers to provide medication reminders, prepare meals, perform light housekeeping tasks, and assist with personal care.

Senior independence is the primary goal of most aging adults, but it looks different for each senior. Physical, mental, and emotional limitations can hinder someone’s ability to live independently. In these situations, a compassionate caregiver can make all the difference to seniors striving to remain independent in their homes.

As we commemorate America’s Independence Day, it’s the time of year I like to reflect on the many ways Home Helpers sustains senior independence in Pasco & Pinellas Counties.

I have compiled a list of some of our many services here, so you have the information you need to make informed decisions about what senior care services might be necessary for yourself or an aging loved one.
