Author: Debbie Humphrey

As I wrap up my holiday shopping, I have a few seniors for whom I want to buy gifts, but I’d like to find items that are practical or things they can use.

Fortunately, I found some great ideas thanks to Good Housekeeping for 20 practical holiday gift ideas for seniors and aging adults in West Pasco and Pinellas Counties just in time for last-minute shopping.

  1. Long Shoehorn – A long shoehorn will keep seniors from having to bend forward and will protect their achy back and knees.
  2. Digital Photo Frame – A digital picture frame makes a lovely sentimental gift for seniors even if they’re not tech-savvy. It's compatible with both Android and iPhone devices and there's the ability to display it either in portrait or landscape mode and it can be mounted on the wall. Some models allow family members to upload photos remotely so new images appear for a fun surprise!
  3. Auto Cane – A short aluminum cane is very handy for seniors who still drive. It is a grab bar that fits into an open car door to provide support as they enter and exit the vehicle.
  4. Cloud Slippers – If your senior loved one experiences foot pain, unisex, EVA foam cloud slippers will make them feel like they are “walking on clouds.” Plus, they come in lots of colors so you can choose their favorite.
  5. “I Wrote a Book About You” – “Over 17,000 Amazon reviewers have purchased this fun fill-in-the-blank book, which includes thoughtful prompts that'll show them just how much they're loved. The best part? It's a gift that works for any occasion.”
  6. Glass Hummingbird Feeder – Seniors enjoy looking out the window and watching tiny hummingbirds flutter around a beautiful feeder that is specially made to prevent nectar from spilling.
