Address Where Care is Needed

Hello, everyone! My name is Lisa Fausey, and I am the proud owner of Home Helpers, serving the Martinsburg, West Virginia, area, Winchester and Berryville in Virginia, and Hagerstown and Frederick in Maryland. Today, I want to share with you the inspiring story behind why I founded Home Helpers and the vision that drives us to this day.

A PASSION FOR CAREGIVING:

Back in the 1980s, I embarked on a journey as a caregiver, working with senior citizens in a communal setting at a nursing home. My experience led me to become a certified nursing assistant and opened my eyes to the importance of providing compassionate care to the elderly. As I delved deeper into the field, I worked at the local VA Health Center and Hospice of the Panhandle, where I learned about the significance of allowing individuals to remain in the comfort of their homes as they approach the end of their lives.

EMBRACING THE VALUE OF HOSPICE CARE:

My exposure to hospice care underscored the profound impact of honoring a person’s wish to live their final days at home, surrounded by familiar faces and cherished memories. Witnessing the difference this kind of care made in people’s lives fueled my determination to make a positive change in the caregiving industry.

FOUNDING HOME HELPERS:

With a clear vision in mind, I founded Home Helpers, driven by two primary goals. First and foremost, I wanted to create a business that could provide meaningful employment opportunities within our local community, particularly in the caregiving sector. Whether people sought part-time or full-time work, I aimed to offer fulfilling jobs that involved caring for others. Secondly, my heart was set on serving the senior population and ensuring that they had the option to stay in the place they call home – an environment that offers comfort, familiarity, and cherished memories. We understood that every individual’s needs and preferences are unique, and we wanted to be there to support them in their desire to age gracefully in their own homes.

PROMOTING ADVANCEMENT AND LEARNING:

At Home Helpers, we believe in the power of education and professional growth. To further this vision, we established a sanctioned apprenticeship for Advanced Home Health Aids in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Apprenticeship. This partnership allowed aspiring caregivers to enhance their skills and knowledge while also working towards an associate’s degree at Blue Ridge Community College. By providing this pathway for advancement, we aim to elevate the quality of care our team members offer to our clients.

CONCLUSION:

As we reflect on the journey that brought us to where we are today, our commitment to empowering independence and creating opportunities remains unwavering. Home Helpers will continue to be a beacon of compassionate care, supporting seniors to age with dignity in the comfort of their own homes. We are grateful for the chance to make a difference in the lives of our clients and the dedicated caregivers who form the backbone of our organization. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our passion and purpose at Home Helpers.
