The Janis Siegle Award
2022 JANIS SIEGLE AWARD WINNER – MARA GORDON
Meet Mara Gordon (pictured left, as well as below with Janis Siegle and Home Helpers of Columbus Owner Jason Janoski and Vice President Tracy Rieser). Mara is halfway through her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Capital University. She plans to graduate in May 2024.
After graduation Mara hopes to work in the Columbus area as medical-surgical nurse.
Mara has worked with Home Helpers since August 2022. In that time, she has worked with some very challenging clients where she has been able to apply her professional skills and bedside manner. The families she has worked for have all expressed their tremendous thanks and appreciation for making their lives easier. They appreciate Mara’s ability to communicate care needs accurately and provide emotional support as well.

JANIS SIEGLE, RN, BSN, CRRN
Janis Single, RN, BSN, CRRN (pictured to the right) is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Nursing. Janis’ career in Columbus spanned 61 years and included a diverse history of settings and patient populations.
Her early years were spent in hospital emergency rooms, orthopedics and acute care. After this early portion of her career, Janis stopped away from nursing to raise seven children. She and her husband Bill experienced all the challenges and joy that come with having seven children involved in school athletics, extracurricular activities and community service–and they never shied away from any of it. Janis and Bill were leaders in their neighborhood, their church and their community.
After raising her children, Janis returned to her love of nursing and served in several leadership roles including: Supervisor for the Heinzerling Foundation (residential care and support for children and adults with severe or profound developmental disabilities). Director of Nursing at Wesley Glen Retirement Community, and Administrator at Advantage Home Health Care. Her final professional years were spent in administration, case management and cancer research.
Janis’ career embodies Home Helpers’ mission of making life easier for others by delivering exceptional care. Her love of work and family and her ability to balance both provides a great example for our Caregivers to follow.
We are proud to honor our Caregivers with the Janis Siegle Award each year. Like Janis, the Award recipients exhibit professional excellence, an eagerness to serve and an unwavering commitment to their teammates and clients.
