Michele Scott has seen what happens when seniors can’t get the help they need – they’re often moved into a care facility when they could be happily at home. That’s something she’s hoping to change with her new business, Home Helpers and Direct Link of South Tulsa. Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Direct Link is its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor and an automated medication dispenser. Michele’s local franchise serves Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Muskogee, Wagnor, Jenks, Sapulpa and Glenpool as well as the surrounding areas.
Prior to opening this business, Michele spent more than 27 years in physical therapy rehabilitation. She started her health care career in 1988 when she graduated from Harcum College with a Physical Therapist Assistant associate’s degree. In 1992, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Temple University and, in 1996, Michele graduated with a Master’s of Physical Therapy degree from Slippery Rock University. A US Navy Gulf War veteran, she also earned a Master’s degree in practical theology from Oral Roberts University in 2012.
“I’ve spent most of my career in long-term care rehabilitation and I love serving the senior population. I have a true passion for working with elderly clients and enabling them to maintain their independence as long as possible – which is something I’ll be able to continue to do through Home Helpers and Direct Link,” Michele said.
Home Helpers and Direct Link offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs. Services offered include companionship, laundry, light housekeeping, respite care, meal preparation and transportation as well as medication management and care management. Each individual client receives services tailored to meet their specific needs by caregivers who become an extension of their family.
“Having someone who can step in to help with these everyday tasks is really vital. In my work with seniors, I’ve seen so many families break down when it comes to caring for their loved ones. I hate to see someone forced into a care facility because they don’t have someone to help with even small things like going to the doctor or making food. My hope is that, with Home Helpers, we can keep more seniors comfortable and safe in their own homes,” Michele said.
“We will do everything possible to make sure you or your loved ones are cared for with the utmost dignity and respect. We will be there for you as your needs change and our caregivers will be accountable for making sure you’re receiving the care you deserve. Also, we know that matching a client with the right caregiver is an important step with in-home care. Our clients can rest assured that I will not hire any caregivers I wouldn’t trust with my own mother,” she added.
