hOME HELPERS PROVIDED WONDERFUL CAREGIVER SERVICES TO MY MOTHER AND STEPFATHER FOR MANY YEARS IN THEIR OWN HOME BEFORE THEY EVENTUALLY PASSED. IN MANY WAYS, HOME HELPERS BECAME PART OF OUR EXTENDED FAMILY OVER THIS PERIOD. THE COMMUNICATION WAS FANTASTIC, AND WE ALWAYS FELT THAT WE HAD A GOOD GRASP OF HOW THINGS WERE GOING IN BETWEEN OUR OWN VISITS TO THE HOUSE. tHE VAST MAJORITY OF THE CAREGIVERS PROVIDED BY HOME HELPERS OVER THE YEARS WERE OUTSTANDING, AND NEW CAREGIVERS WERE PROMPTLY ASSIGNED ON THOSE RARE OCCASIONS WHEN MY MOTHER OR STEPFATHER HAD A CAREGIVER THAT FELL SHORT OF THIS STANDARD. iN MY VIEW, tHE TRUE TEST OF A HOME CARE SERVICE PROVIDER IS HOW THINGS ARE HANDLED WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG, BECAUSE SOME ISSUES ARE BOUND TO ARISE WHEN CARE IS PROVIDED ON A DAILY BASIS OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. hOME HELPERS PASSED THIS TEST WITH FLYING COLORS. aNY ISSUES WE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE MANAGEMENT WERE DEALT WITH SWIFTLY AND PROFESSIONALLY. mY MOTHER COULD BE A DIFFICULT CLIENT AT TIMES — SHE LIKED THINGS DONE A CERTAIN WAY AND DID NOT RESPOND WELL IF THINGS WERE DONE AT ALL DIFFERENTLY. however, LISA AND HER STAFF DEVEOPED A FANTASTIC REPOIRE WITH MY MOTHER, AND THERE WAS A MUTUAL AFFECTION THAT WAS WONDERFUL TO WITNESS. IN HER LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, MY MOTHER DEVELOPED ALZHEIMERS (WHICH MY STEPFATHER ALSO SUFFERED FROM). IT WAS DIFFICULT TO WITNESS MY MOTHER, WHO HAD ALWAYS BEEN SHARP AS A TACK AND FIRMLY IN CONTROL, GRADUALLY LOSE HER SHORT-TERM MEMORY AND BECOME RELIANT ON ASSISTANCE WITH WHAT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SIMPLE TASKS. sHE AND MY STEPFATHER WERE ALWAYS TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND COMPASSION, AND THIS GREATLY HELPED THEM THROUGH THESE DIFFICULT YEARS. tHANKS TO HOME HELPERS, OUR PARENTS WERE ABLE TO AGE GRACEFULLY IN PLACE AT THEIR HOME, AND WE WERE ABLE TO REST COMFORTABLY KNOWING THEY WERE IN GOOD HANDS WHEN WE WERE NOT PRESENT. whenever THERE WAS A HEALTH ISSUE OR OTHER PROBLEM, WE KNEW THAT WE WOULD RECEIVE A CALL AND THAT LISA, THE NURSING STAFF, AND/OR THE CAREGIVERS WOULD TAKE WHATEVER TIME WAS NEEDED TO ASSIST US IN FIGURING OUT THE BEST SOLUTION. often THESE DISCUSSIONS LED TO SOLUTIONS I WOULD NOT HAVE FOUND ON MY OWN. WHEN IT CAME TIME TO MAKE ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT DECISIONS, SUCH AS WHETHER TO START HOSPICE SERVICES, IT WAS A GREAT COMFORT TO HAVE PEOPLE WE DEEPLY TRUSTED WILLING TO TAKE THE TIME TO LISTEN AND HELP US THINK THINGS THROUGH.
