  • Aspen Hill got its name from aspen trees that once grew near the first post office in the area, which opened around 1864 at what is now the intersection of Connecticut and Georgia Avenues
  • In the 1920s and 1930s, Aspen Hill became known for Aspin Hill Memorial Park (note the different spelling), one of the first pet cemeteries on the East Coast, which now has over 50,000 pets buried there, including three of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover’s dogs
  • In July 1950, Louis M. Denit sold 517 acres of land to Gelman Construction Company for about $300,000 to build 2,450 three-bedroom ramblers priced at less than $10,000 each
