    Kate Bostick

    Owner & Operator

I’m Kate Bostick, the local owner and operator of Home Helpers Home Care in Westminster, Maryland. I know what it’s like to need a caregiver—because I truly needed one myself.

When I was eight weeks pregnant with my second child, I went to the doctor expecting routine news. Instead, I received two life-changing diagnoses: I was pregnant, and I had stage two breast cancer. I thought I’d be told to either terminate the pregnancy or delay treatment, but I underwent 12 chemotherapy sessions during my second trimester, then continued treatment while recovering from childbirth. Trying to raise a toddler while pregnant and going through chemo was overwhelming. I could have really used a caregiver. It was the little things—laundry, meal planning, grocery shopping—that kept piling up. My family needed support, but we didn’t realize in-home care was even an option.

I’m also a veteran and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 17 years of federal service. My background includes case management with adults experiencing homelessness, work in women’s health, and later service with the Office of Inspector General. I’ve spent my career supporting those in need, and I’ve always been driven by a passion for service. I began to rethink my path after hearing a sermon about legacy. At the time, I was deeply motivated by professional achievement—but my pastor said legacy isn’t about your title or bank account. That hit me hard. He was right. I had worked so hard, but if I walked away from that job, the ship would keep sailing. I wanted to do something that truly made a difference.

At Home Helpers, our approach to in-home care goes far beyond sending a caregiver to your home. We tailor nutrition to your needs. We use technology to support you even when a caregiver isn’t present. We conduct wellness checks and medication reminders. It’s a holistic approach to helping people live healthier, happier lives—wherever they call home. Home Helpers Home Care of Westminster serves clients in Westminster, Mt. Airy, Damascus, Germantown, and surrounding areas. My team and I look forward to meeting you!

    Julia Gibis

    Care Coordinator

I’m Julia Gibis, the Care Coordinator at Home Helpers Home Care in Westminster, Maryland. I’ve always had a caring heart—helping others has given me a sense of purpose for as long as I can remember. Now, I’m in a position where I get to live that purpose every day. I am Activity Professional Certified and currently pursuing certification in dementia care.

Before becoming Kate’s Care Coordinator, I worked in a skilled nursing facility supporting residents living with dementia as part of the Life Enrichment team—also known as Recreation or Activities. That role showed me how powerful small moments can be. I fell in love with finding ways to make their world brighter, even if it wasn’t every day. That experience is what first drew me to elder care and the unique rewards and challenges of caregiving.

Over a decade ago, I became my mother’s primary caregiver. While I was grateful to step into that role, it was incredibly challenging—and at times overwhelming. I learned firsthand the emotional depth and daily reality of caregiving, and how easy it can be to forget to care for yourself while caring for someone else. Looking back, I’m so thankful for the lessons I learned and the support team I had. That experience gave me a deeper understanding of what families go through and the importance of having the right kind of help.

At Home Helpers, we strive to be that support team for you and your loved ones. We want to bring peace of mind to our clients and their families. Whether you need assistance or are interested in joining our mission to help others, we’re here to welcome you.

    Allison Gemmell

    Office Manager

Hi, I’m Allison, the Office Manager here at Home Helpers. I’ve been with the team since day one, and it’s been such a rewarding journey. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, which helps me understand people and the many dynamics involved in caregiving and support. That background, combined with my genuine heart for helping others, makes me passionate about managing the day-to-day operations that keep our office running smoothly.

In my role, I handle onboarding new caregivers, scheduling, and maintaining open, clear communication with clients and referral partners. Safety is very important to me—I make sure that all protocols are followed so both our clients and caregivers feel secure and supported. Building strong, trusting relationships is one of my favorite parts of the job because it helps our community grow and thrive.

On a personal note, I’m a mom of two wonderful boys, and I’ve experienced firsthand the value of compassionate care. While I wasn’t my father’s direct caregiver, I was deeply touched by the dignity hospice care provided him at home during his final days. That experience strengthened my commitment to supporting families facing similar challenges with kindness and respect.

I’m motivated, reliable, and always ready to do whatever it takes to make life easier for our clients and their families. Being part of Home Helpers means a lot to me, and I’m proud to be part of a team that truly cares.

    Brianna Smith

    Registered Nurse

Hi! My name is Brianna Smith, and I am a Registered Nurse with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Stevenson University. I have my DDA certification as a Delegating Nurse/ Case Manager. As a nurse, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients—from those who are fully independent to those requiring total care. My main focus has been in community health where I delegate tasks to caregivers to keep my clients comfortable in their homes. I have had the pleasure of working with clients who have varying degrees of intellectual disabilities in a group home setting and brief experience in a psychiatric medical surgical inpatient setting. I have worked extremely hard to develop trusting and blossoming relationships with partnered agencies and management to help advocate for the best care possible for every client I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

My passion for healthcare started early in life when I helped care for my grandmother. While the rest of my cousins were outside playing, you could find me inside asking my grandma how I could help her feel better. I was involved in her daily routines, sat in on her home health sessions, and participated in family care meetings. It is during this time that I got my nickname “Nurse Bri” at the age of eight years old. As I continued to grow and watch my loved ones go through different medical needs, my love for the idea of nursing grew. My next “patient” ended up being my dad. He included me on every doctor’s visit, made sure to always get a copy of his paperwork for me to research, and always knew I was just a phone call away if he ever needed medical advice or clarification. My acceptance into nursing school was an accomplishment we both got to celebrate. Shortly after I started my program, my dad passed away. I made a promise to myself that no matter how hard it was to show up for myself at times during school, I would not give up on my dream. After a very challenging 3 years, I graduated on time with my class and with honors. Though my dad may not be earthside with me anymore, I feel his spirit anytime I’m providing care to my clients because I know they are getting the care I was able to give him.

I feel most fulfilled when I’m with the people I care for, and am proud to be part of a team that is genuinely committed to providing quality care. We strive to provide the resources needed to keep families and their loved ones home and taken care of. Being able to make a difference in someone’s life, alongside my colleagues at Home Helpers who share the same passion, is what I love most about being a Home Helpers nurse.
