Free In-Home Care for Veterans | Intro to VA CCN
Author: Jonathan Marsh
This blog introduces the VA Community Care Network (VA CCN). VA CCN is a program that helps Veterans receive FREE in-home care and respite care, but many are unaware of it. Learn how veterans can receive personalized in-home care, including homemaker, home health aide, and respite services. We aim to raise awareness so that Veterans of all ages can receive the care they deserve when they need it.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all Veterans for their service. We have proudly cared for veterans since opening in 2015 and contracted with the VA to provide care for veterans in 2017.
What is VA CCN?
The VA Community Care Network (VA CCN) is a nationwide initiative. It provides eligible veterans with high-quality healthcare services outside the VA healthcare system. Unfortunately, many veterans are unaware of the valuable resources it offers.
The VA Mission Act established the Veterans Community Care Program (VCCP) on June 6, 2019. This program authorizes care for eligible veterans to receive services in the community through the VA Community Care Network.
The VA CCN is a vast network of healthcare providers, including doctors, hospitals, and other professionals. This network works with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It ensures that veterans receive high-quality, timely, and accessible healthcare services.
In the realm of home care, the VA does not directly offer in-home care services. Instead, they authorize community providers like Home Helpers Home Care of Bradenton. These providers deliver essential services directly to veterans in their homes. This approach ensures personalized care and support.
How Veterans Can Receive In-Home Care
Veterans must enroll in the VA Health Care System to receive these valuable in-home care services. The VA will evaluate them at a VA medical center to determine their in-home care needs. This evaluation assesses the need for assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). Examples of ADLs include bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
The VA awards the number of care hours based solely on need, not financial standing. The VA typically assigns veterans between 6 to 20 hours of care per week, but it sets no maximum limit. In some cases, the VA may authorize 24-hour care to ensure proper care for the veteran.
The VA CCN Program gives veterans the freedom to choose the agency that provides their in-home care. The only requirement is that the agency must be credentialed. Veterans can combine this benefit with another VA benefit called Aid and Attendance to receive even more care.
Important: In-home care services provided through VA CCN are entirely separate from the Aid and Attendance Benefit. The VA reimburses the VA CCN provider directly for services received through CCN.
Aid and Attendance, however, have different criteria, including the veteran's financial situation. Aid and Attendance provides direct financial assistance to the veteran or surviving spouse. You can use this assistance for in-home care, assisted living, or skilled nursing.
