BRUNSWICK FUN FACTS

  • The area was originally home to the Susquehanna Native American Tribe. The first settlement was built in 1728 and was known as Eel Town because the natives fished for eel in the Potomac River.
  • Brunswick, then called Berlin, was the Potomac River crossing point for Union and Confederate troops during the civil war. Pontoon bridges were built and changed hands multiple times during the conflict between the North and South.
  • The town was later Brunswick was a railroad company boomtown. The population grew to 2,471 by 1900 and 5,000 by 1910.
  • Brunswick is home to the B & O Railroad Caboose. The authentic freight train caboose contains bunks, a small coal stove for heating and cooking, coal box, water tank, ice box, pantry and seating.
